SOMA Terms of Service

Welcome to SOMA — a platform connecting readers and writers through stories, ideas, and creativity.

By using SOMA, Soma Readers Platform or any of our affiliates, you expressly agree to follow these Terms of Service (“Terms”), which form a legally binding agreement between you (“User,” “you”, “writer”, “reader”, “moderator”) and SOMA (“we,” “us,” “our”).

If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Platform.

1. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use SOMA.
  • If you are under 18 (13 to 17), you must have parental/guardian consent.
  • You must comply with all applicable laws in your jurisdiction.

2. Account Registration

  • You must provide accurate, complete information when creating your SOMA account.
  • You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of your account, including any access through your device. All activities that occur under your account will be deemed your responsibility, whether or not authorized by you. If you allow someone else to use your device or account, you accept full responsibility for any actions they take, including withdrawals, deposits or other transactions.
  • We reserve the right to freely suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms and any of our usage policies. We can do this without notice and at will wherever we deem necessary.

3. Platform Usage Rules

You agree not to:

  • Post, upload, or share any illegal, harmful, or offensive content that goes against the constitution of your country and international laws.
  • Harass, abuse, or exploit other users.
  • Use bots, scripts, or any automated methods to generate reads, likes, or engagement.
  • Infringe on another person’s intellectual property rights.
  • Attempt to hack, disrupt, or damage the Platform.

Violation of these rules may result in account suspension or permanent ban without notice. Depending on the severity, a legal action!

4. Tokens & Payments

  • Tokens are the in-platform currency for purchasing content access on SOMA.
  • All token sales are final. We do not offer refunds for purchased tokens, whether used or unused. Please recheck your figures before approving transactions with Soma.
  • Token prices may change at our discretion.
  • Writers earn money based on unique reads only (first-time views from a specific user). Repeat reads by the same user do not generate additional earnings. They might however give your story ranking which might expose your story to more unique readers.
  • Payments to writers will be processed through approved payment channels only. We are not responsible for delays caused by third-party payment processors. We however will require a maximum of 24 hours to approve payments.
  • Payments to writers will be made after every two weeks.
  • A minimum of 350 Tokens is required to initiate a payment.

5. Earnings & Taxes

  • Writers are solely responsible for any taxes due on their earnings.
  • SOMA may withhold or deduct amounts as required by law. This will be communicated in due time to the user.
  • Fraudulent activity (e.g., fake reads, manipulation) will result in forfeiture of earnings and account termination.
  • Money laundering activities are strictly forbidden and will lead to account suspension (together with the funds in it), and cause a legal action.

6. Intellectual Property

  • Writers retain full copyright over their original works uploaded to SOMA.
  • By posting on SOMA, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and promote your content on our Platform and in our marketing materials.
  • You must only upload content you have the legal right to share.

7. Termination

  • You may close your account at any time.
  • We may suspend or terminate your account without notice if you violate these Terms, abuse the Platform, or engage in fraudulent activity.
  • Upon termination, unused tokens are forfeited and no longer redeemable.

8. Limitation of Liability

  • SOMA is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind.
  • We are not responsible for any damages, losses, or claims arising from your use of the Platform, including but not limited to downtime, content loss, or third-party actions.
  • Our total liability to you for any claim will not exceed the total amount you have paid to SOMA in the past 12 months.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold SOMA harmless from any claims, damages, or legal fees arising from:

  • Your use of the Platform.
  • Your violation of these Terms.
  • Your infringement of any third-party rights.
  • Your use of plagiarised material.

10. Dispute Resolution

  • These Terms are governed by the laws of Kenya.
  • Any disputes will be resolved through arbitration in Nairobi, Kenya, unless otherwise required by law.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Platform after changes means you accept the revised Terms. We shall communicate via given channels if/when there are changes to this document.
